Description: Immunization programmes are of key importance for maintaining good health and protecting life. Disruption to routine immunization may increase the incidence of diseases that can be prevented by vaccinations . Immunization programmes are an important element of the national health policy in every country. Disruption in the systematic immunization services can have an adverse effect on health and on the maintenance of herd immunity against many infectious diseases. The increase in the number of unvaccinated people increases the risk of VPD outbreaks. The goal of immunizing children against chief diseases responsible for child mortality and morbidity is indeed a noble one. However, it is not an easy task to achieve. In a developing country like India, the sheer logistics of the numbers of the target population that stretches across geographically diverse regions make universal immunization of children a Herculean task. However, the health sector of this country is making admirable achievements in that several millions of potential life years have been saved from getting lost to vaccine preventable diseases through the universal immunization program (UIP). An increasing number of industrialized, polio-free countries are using inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) in routine immunization schedules. IPV is not recommended for routine use in polio-endemic countries or in developing countries at risk of poliovirus importations as it does not stop transmission of the virus, and is more complex to administer and costly than oral polio vaccine. This RJ LINK is a talk with DR,SWAYAM PRAGYAN PARIDA,Additional Professor,AIIMS,BBSR,revealing everything about routine vaccination and immunization.Vaccines have already eradicated Polio from our country and this timely and routinized vaccination will make our country disease free for sure
